Random Musings About the Word of God

1. Jesus said that man does not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. Maybe that could explain why so many of God’s children are decidedly malnourished and/or crippled in their faith, tossed around by every wind of teaching propagated by false teachers.
2. The best books that purport to speak about a biblical view on manhood, womanhood, parenting, marriage, relationship, church or culture are those that point back to the Word and its supremacy over all things. The only reason they exist is to give an example of how the understanding and application of the Word impact people’s lives. I think anything else would be classified as heresy.
3. I cannot bring a sinner to repentance. It is the work of the Holy Spirit alone. But He does that only when I speak the Word of God without holding back on hell, sin and eternal condemnation. God is to be feared by all, and if there is no fear of God, how can anyone become wise unto salvation?
4. I like listening to someone who preaches exactly what the Word is saying. How would I know how to apply God’s Word in my life if I didn’t understand what He wants to say through the text? God’s word is clear. He is not the God of chaos. He is the God of order, and He wants to be known by His people.
5. The value that I place on the 39 books of the Old Testament and the 27 in the New Testament with all 1,189 chapters and 31,102 verses will determine the course of my life, the depth of my walk with God, the maturity of my relationships and everything else. It will determine my destiny.
6. There has been a rampant rise in right-wing rhetoric across our country. When there is drying up of passion for the truth or the absolute, it’s only a matter of time before something else takes its place. I believe the Bride of Christ ought to take a very fundamental approach to the authoritative and commanding voice of her Husband in times such as this. It’s either the Bible or bust.
7. The superficial understanding of God that has been brought on by the trivialisation of His Word among His flock is simply gut-wrenching and painful to look at. Just look at the so-called “popular” and “appealing” worship songs that are actually 7-11s – seven words sung 11 times!
Where is the majesty? Where is the grandeur? Where is the glory? Where is the fear due to our God? Where is the God of Moses whose voice left the Israelites quaking in their tents? If the Word of God does not inspire us to worship, if it does not compel the sinner to bow down and surrender his life, what else will?
8. There is one, and only one, weapon in our hands and that is the Sword of the Spirit. And it is with this weapon that we disarm and grind to dust the false pretensions of every spiritual power that seeks to usurp the authority of God. Not philosophical digressions, not well-written books, not stadia filled with people, not the celebrity pastor, not the miracle worker, not the media/TV/radio/internet.
Are we sharpening ourselves? Are we willing to slog and spend time reading the precious words of life? Even the fact that you have a translated version of the Bible in the first place is a miracle! There is simply no excuse for us, who claim to be His children.
